In Episode 672, it’s the return of Michael Moreci from The Awakened graphic novel at Zoop.gg along with a holiday tradition!

Michael and I talk about this timely original graphic novel from him, Alex Segura, and Dean Kotz. The series is described this way: “The Awakened is a character-driven superhero epic in the vein of The Golden Age, Supreme Power, Black Hammer, and Astro City! It is collected here in trade paperback format for the first time!” We discuss how this book came to be, what else Michael is working on, and the importance of this story for today’s world. Joe has been a comics writer and artist for Marvel, DC, Image, Valiant, Boom, IDW, and many others. He’s best known for penciling more #1 issues featuring Spider-Man and/or his cast than any other artist! Here’s this book’s description: It’s “a collection of super-sketches by Joe St.Pierre (Marvel, Spider-Man, Venom). These are some of his favorite commissions from the last year, as well as a few gems from the vault, assembled into a 52-page Sketchbook!” We talk about how this sketchbook came to be, how he approaches creating sketches and covers, and what else he will be up to in the months ahead.  Adam and Mark are behind this “original concept told in comic form.” Here’s this series’ description: “Using revolutionary technology, The Maglev is a massive, solar-powered superhighway utilizing magnetic roadways. Unfortunately, the only ones capable of using it are those who can afford to… and those who hijack their way in. The rich and the wild. Sam Johnson, creator of both Geek-Girl and Cabra Cini, is back this week in Episode 669. These two characters team up in a new three-part crossover, the first two chapters now available through Kickstarter.

 Sam is a favorite here at the podcast, and he’s best known for developing Geek-Girl, Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman, and the Almighties (this last one with Mike Gagnon).  Gene talks about the upcoming collected edition, which you can pre-order now through your local comics shop, and also on Amazon.com, to be released April, 2025.
